Matthew Perry Said The Most Chandler Thing Ever While Filming The Fountain Scene

Ahead of the long-anticipated Friends reunion on HBO Max, Courteney Cox aka Monica Geller has spilled the beans on the beloved show’s opening sequence.

In the intro, Cox and her co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer dance in a fountain while The Rembrandts play I’ll Be There For You. But trying to look happy while completely soaked in water wasn’t as fun as the six actors had you believe.

Courteney Cox Reveals A Very Chandler Moment Behind The Scenes Of ‘Friends’

Cox appeared on The Ellen Show to chat about “The One Where They Got Back Together,” the special episode where the six Friends will return on stage, although not in character but as themselves.

“It’s an unscripted reunion but we got to be on Stage 24 for the first time, all of us, in like, I forgot how many years,” Cox said.

Stage 24, also known as The Friends Stage, was the sound stage at Warner Studios where all ten seasons of Friends were filmed.

The actress also looked back at the opening sequence, explaining it wasn’t all fun and laughs.

"It definitely wasn’t [my idea],” Cox told DeGeneres.

“We were in that fountain for a long time. Somebody thought that would just be really fun and let me tell you what happens,” she continued.

Cox added that it is "not fun to be dancing in the fountain for hours and hours,” and that Matthew Perry, who plays Chandler Bing, wasn’t particularly happy about it.

Matthew Perry Channeled Big Bing Energy Early On

“I remember Matthew Perry saying at one point… and we didn’t know each other that well at that point, but I remember — and this is so Matthew — he was like ‘Can’t remember a time where I wasn’t in this fountain,’” Cox continued.

Even though filming for the intro occurred very early in production, it sounds like the actor had channeled Bing’s energy already.

“Literally, we were just like, 'Oh my god, how much longer are we going to pretend to love dancing in the water?’” Cox added.

“It was fun but not really,” she finally said.
